Abstract:

Teeth exhibit the least turnover of natural structure and are readily accessible for examination. Under most conditions occurring in nature like putrefication, mutilation, fire and prolonged immersion in water, the teeth are the least destructible part of the body and they may readily survive all these changes. They are useful in determination of gender by using different odontometric techniques. Measurements of the mandibular teeth can provide a mean of determining sex. In the present study, seventy subjects, 35 males and 35 females in the age group of 17 – 21 years were selected. The premolar arch width and the molar arch width were measured on their dental casts. It was found that all the parameters were more in the males as compared to the females and the difference was statistically significant.

Keywords: Molar arch width, Pre molar arch width.
